The 1920s was the decade of jazz. Jazz spread like wildfire,throughout not only America but Canada aswell.

The 1920’s was the most powerful time for Jazz music. Jazz originated in New Orleans in the 1900s and spread north and west of its birth place being adopted by white musicians by the 1920s. Jazz was made popular by artists such as Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong. Jazz inspired many new forms of entertainment such as dancing and live music shows.

It wasn’t until later on Canada began having jazz artists of their own, pianist Harry Thomas was Canada’s earliest recorded jazz performer. American music and entertainment dominated Canada’s culture at this time in history.
